Building the future of flexible
work and study in Aotearoa!
Kia ora!
Finding a place to work or study shouldn’t be guesswork. NZ Remote is a community-powered map of cafés, coworking spaces and public places that welcome laptops.
We help people find the right spot and businesses share what works for their space, reducing friction and misunderstandings for everyone. We’re on a mission to make New Zealand the best place in the world to work and study remotely.

Why it matters
🎓 Access to Opportunity
A good place to focus makes work and study easier. We help people find one when they need it.
🥝 Helping New Zealand Thrive
Finding places to work across Aotearoa makes it easier to explore, stay longer and support local businesses along the way.
Why NZ Remote Exists
Some places welcome people working on laptops. Others don’t, and that’s completely fair.
The problem is: nobody knows which is which. That’s where NZ Remote comes in.
What We’re Building
A map people can trust, shaped by the people who use it. Anyone can add a laptop-friendly spot to our community map, and businesses can add, claim and manage their listings for free.
If a listing needs correcting, let us know. We’d rather show fewer places that genuinely welcome laptops than fill the map with guesswork.
Have an idea for a feature? Share it on our public feedback board.

Meet the Founder
NZ Remote was created by Kiwi indie founder Michael Watson, who also built StudySpy, New Zealand's course and scholarship directory. Through years helping students discover education opportunities and four years working remotely around the world, the idea for NZ Remote was simple: make it easier for remote workers and students to discover welcoming, laptop-friendly places across Aotearoa.
NZ Remote is an independent platform helping make New Zealand one of the best places in the world for remote work and study.
If you'd like to connect, feel free to add me on LinkedIn. If you'd like to support NZ Remote, the best way is to add places, review listings, or share ideas to help make the platform even better.
